Sep 19 Retreat Day Details

We are meeting up at Whey-ah-Wichen (Cate's Park) in Deep Cove on September 19 for some fun time together!

Here are some important details to take note of:

  • The day will start at 10am and end around 3pm
  • Some breakfasty things will be provided for those who arrive at 10; please bring a potluck item to share for lunch!
  • Don’t forget your own dishes/cutlery/drinks, as well as any picnic blankets, lawn chairs, etc. you would like to have with you
  • There will be fun activities planned; also feel free to bring any outdoor games you might have, such as badminton, bocce, or spikeball (is that still a thing?)
  • Swimming is permitted at Whey-ah-Wichen! Please be aware there will be NO lifeguard on duty.
  • Please RSVP if you think you might come – it will help the planning team prepare food and activities for everyone!
  • If we get rained out, we will aim to pivot to in-home potlucks that day. If you are open to hosting a potluck, you can indicate this in the RSVP form.

Getting to Whey-ah-Wichen

Whey-ah-wichen is a Tsleil-Waututh word that means “faces the wind.” You should be able to find directions on your devices from your unique starting point, but generally speaking, there are several ways of getting to Whey-ah-Wichen:

  • By transit: You can get there by taking the 211 Seymour bus, which picks up in East Van along Powell St, or the 212 Dollarton Hwy/Deep Cove bus which leaves from Phibbs Exchange, just on the Burnaby side of Hastings St.
  • By bike: Cycle over the Second Narrows Bridge and along Dollarton Highway.
  • By Car: The park is about a 15 minute drive from the Second Narrows Bridge, and there’s lots of free parking at the park. Please consider carpooling with those who might not have access to a car!
